Welcome, new SHS students!
One of the most important considerations for students entering Senior High School is deciding on a track and strand of study. And one of these tracks is the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS).
Do you like reading, writing or speaking? Maybe you’re interested in culture, politics and arts? Do you want to improve your communication skills and learn how the world works in politics?
And if I were you, choose HUMSS as your track.

HUMSS stands for Humanities and Social Sciences. It is one of the tracks available to students in Senior High School. The HUMSS strand is for learners who are curious about what’s on the other side of the wall. To put it another way, you are ready to take on the world and interact with a large number of people. This strand is for those students interested in majoring in journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, or other social science-related fields in college.
This strand encompasses a wide range of disciplines that investigate and inquire into human situations using empirical, analytical, and critical methodologies to explore human behavior and societal developments.
Through the study of social scientific theories and concepts, community-based realities, study of culture, society and politics and discussion on moral issues, students in HUMSS develop the necessary knowledge and abilities for bringing about constructive change.
HUMSS is strongly focused on research, and students will be expected to read, write and present many papers throughout their senior high school. Students in this strand will learn about world religions, Philippine and world literature, political and community development specializations, and other fascinating topics.
What can we learn from HUMSS?
1. Study of human behavior and societal changes.
2. Analysis of arts, culture, literature and politics.
3. Involves political science, anthropology, linguistics, psychology and communication.
Why you should choose HUMSS?

HUMSS is dedicated to the scientific study of human society and its interactions. It dives into the various disciplines that examine human civilization and how they are intertwined.
• You will gain a better understanding of effective communication.
You will be able to apply the communication skills you learned in HUMSS whether or not you pursue a social science-related degree.
• You’ll be capable on a global scale.
HUMSS will introduce you to a variety of old and new concepts and beliefs that have directed and shaped civilizations over thousands of years. You’ll learn how to take these concepts and turn them into new ones, as well as how to use them in real-world situations.
One of the benefits of taking HUMSS is that it will improve your speaking skills, and this strand will help you create and strengthen your self-confidence. Many teenagers struggle with communication and become introverts, therefore this strand will aid in your development. It focuses on helping students improve their reading, writing, and speaking abilities. It also aids with the fastening of the seat belt for you once you enter college and strengthens your logical reasoning. Humanities teach many fundamental skills such as critical thinking, analysis and creativity.

Why I chose HUMSS?
As you can see, there are many reasons and factors why we should choose HUMSS.
I was thinking about what strand would go with my chosen college course as I was approaching senior high. In my senior high, I chose HUMSS as my strand because I wanted to be a teacher. I wasn’t sure whether I could handle it when I chose it since this strand required more public speaking, and I had low self-confidence, was shy, and was terrified of speaking in front of people. And as a result of this strand, my self-confidence grew, as did my critical thinking, writing, reading, and speaking abilities. And I have no regrets about choosing this strand. Because HUMSS is one of the things that has helped me get out of a funk. This track aided me in creating my own version of myself.
So, what exactly are you waiting for? Choose the one that suits your dream, choose HUMSS!
HUMSS students have the chance to predict the future because they will spend time looking at the past and learning from all the mistakes and successes of humanity since the beginning of time.
